What is Aquamation

Aquamation is a gentle, eco-friendly way of laying a loved one to rest. Instead of the intense heat of fire used in traditional cremation, aquamation relies on a solution of water and a special alkaline compound, kind of like a natural soap.

Here’s how it works: The body is carefully placed in a container, and then the container is filled with the water-alkaline solution. Over time, with gentle heating and circulation, the body undergoes a process called hydrolysis. It’s like a very natural breakdown, similar to what happens in nature over years, but sped up in a controlled environment.

As the process progresses, the body’s tissues are broken down into a liquid solution, leaving behind only the bones. These bones are then gently dried and processed into a fine powder, which can be returned to the family, just like cremated remains.

One of the beautiful things about aquamation is its environmental friendliness. It uses less energy compared to traditional cremation, and it doesn’t release harmful emissions into the air. Plus, any metals or implants are safely removed and recycled before the process begins.

Many families find comfort in knowing that aquamation honors their loved one in a gentle, natural way while also being kind to the Earth.
